Smith tastes victory with Bradford as Fax squeeze past Oldham

Rohan Smith won his first game in charge at Bradford as the Bulls came from behind to defeat Sheffield 25-14.

Trailing 14-6 with 25 minutes to play, the Bulls scored three tries in 15 minutes to secure back-to-back wins.

Sheffield, who earlier in the week had appointed Steve Thorpe as their captain to replace Mitch Stringer, went ahead following tries through Rob Worrincy (2) and Cory Aston, with Oscar Thomas responding for the Bulls.

However, Bradford hit back, with Danny Williams, Adam Sidlow and Kris Welham all scoring, with Thomas adding a drop goal.

Meanwhile, Halifax battled their way past a valiant Oldham side 12-6.

Two first half tries through Matt Sarsfield helped Halifax to victory, who remain fifth, level on points with fourth placed Featherstone.

With Fax leading 10-0 at half-time, Oldham hit back through Jamal Chisholm. Although Oldham enjoyed plenty of possession due to Halifax’s ill-discipline, the hosts held on to claim victory.

Oldham remain tenth in the Championship and still searching for their first away league win of 2016.
