Wakefield Trinity Wildcats half-back Liam Finn believes that their comfortable position in mid-table when it comes to Super League could be a huge positive for them this weekend in their bid to reach the last four of the Challenge Cup.
Finn’s Wakefield head to Huddersfield for a huge West Yorkshire derby, with a semi-final spot the prize for the victor on Thursday night.
And he said that whilst they would always believe they can win a game of this magnitude, the fact there’s no pressure on them when it comes to avoiding relegation means that they can place more of a focus on this contest.
“We know we can win this game but at the same time I’m sure Huddersfield are too. Obviously the coach has just gone and they’ll be refreshed ready for the Cup game,” said Finn.
“There’s no real pressure on us for Super League survival for next year so we can focus on the game and hopefully it’ll be a really entertaining game.”
Finn is also targeting a double-quick return to form after a disappointing defeat to Leeds last weekend.
“We had a decent performance against Huddersfield two weeks ago and then let ourselves down against Leeds, so we’re looking to bounce back. It’s been a bit of a recurring theme over the last month or so, so we’re aiming to get a win and get ourselves in to a little bit of form.”
