Whitehaven relieve coach James Coyle of duties

Whitehaven have confirmed that coach James Coyle has been relieved of his duties with the club with immediate effect.

Coyle has been sacked with only five games of the season left in the Championship Shield, and Haven in an almighty scrap to avoid relegation to League 1.

With a huge derby against Workington on the way this weekend – vital in their bid to avoid the drop – Haven’s board of directors released a short statement on Wednesday confirming that Coyle had been sacked.

They said: “To all concerned. unfortunately the Board of Directors have decided that due to recent circumstances we are left with no option but to relieve the Head Coach of his duties, with immediate effect.

” We wish James all the best in the future.”

Haven are currently bottom of the Championship Shield, four points behind Swinton in the bid to avoid the drop – and two behind major rivals Workington.
