Chris Chester believes Wakefield have an opportunity to improve on last year’s top eight finish following an impressive recruitment campaign.
Trinity have finalised their squad for 2017 after signing both Mitch Allgood and Craig Huby earlier this month.
Their arrivals help bulk up the pack ahead of next year, with Chester pinpointing more presence in the forwards as an essential part of his recruitment strategy during the Super 8s.
Chester also spoke of his desire to bring in competition at halfback, something he has been able to do by signing Sam Williams and Kyle Wood, while he also retained David Fifita.
It has left Chester in a positive mindset going into the new campaign.
“We’re really happy with the quality that we’ve brought into the squad.
“We were a little bit light in the pack, we wanted to bring some front-rowers in and we like the players we’ve brought in. In terms of depth it’s the strongest team we’ve had in a long time and we need to build on this momentum.”
With other clubs around them not having as much success, on paper at least, during the off-season, Chester believes they could creep higher up the league ladder next year.
“I do. We just need to work on the improvements we can make. It puts us in a really good position. The youngsters are a year wiser, the likes of Max Jowitt, James Batchelor, they’ll be a lot wiser.”
