Leigh duo handed lengthy bans at disciplinary hearings on Tuesday

Leigh will be without duo Peter Mata’utia and Matty Dawson-Jones for the next month after both were handed lengthy suspensions by the RFL’s disciplinary panel.

Mata’utia was issued a straight red card during the early stages of their Challenge Cup exit to Leeds last Friday, following a dangerous tackle on Rhinos hooker Matt Parcell.

And, after pleading guilty to a Grade E Dangerous Throw charge, an Independent Operational Rules Tribunal (HHJ Chris Batty, Andy Raleigh & Jon Hamer) handed the fullback a four-match ban – meaning he will miss Leigh’s next month of action as they aim to make the Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, winger Dawson-Jones – who was also sent off last Friday – will be banned for five games. He pleaded guilty to a Grade E charge of Questioning the integrity of a Match Official charge.

Both were also fined £250.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield half-back Danny Brough has been banned for an extra game after an unreasonable challenge of a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge.

Brough initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the ban has had an extra game added to it.
