In the wake of Justin Carney’s retirement, Hull KR may well be on the lookout for a replacement for the Australian winger.
Here are five names that we think could replace Carney at Hull KR.
Jake Mamo
Mamo has found it tough to maintain a starting spot with Huddersfield Giants in 2018 and is out of contract at the end of the season. Last year was a mixed year for Mamo with injury plaguing an otherwise successful season on the field. But the signing of Jordan Rankin and the emergence of Darnell McIntosh has limited his chances. If kept injury free, Hull KR would do well to find a better try scorer than Mamo.
Kieran Moss –
Moss has found it difficult to break into the Hull KR side this year and has spent time on loan with York and with Halifax, where he’s on loan for the rest of the season. But with Carney’s departure, that might tempt the Rovers to offer Moss a contract for next season as an internal replacement for Carney.
Matty Dawson-Jones –
After Leigh’s Championship status was confirmed for 2019, many players left for Super League pastures new. But with Dawson-Jones off contract at the end of the season, there was no rush for the winger to leave before the transfer deadline. But he could be a target for the Rovers for 2019: He’s got plenty of Super League experience after starting his career with St Helens.
Stefan Marsh –
You won’t get too many wingers who have more experience in Super League than Stefan Marsh. Marsh has been injured since July as Widnes have slipped towards the Championship. Off contract at the end of the season, Marsh would be a solid signing for the Rovers as a replacement for Carney.
Justin Olam –
The Papua New Guinean is out of contract with the Melbourne Storm after making a handful of appearances for the Storm in 2018. With Kumuls stars such as Wellington Albert crossing over to the Super League, Olam may see it as an attractive choice.
