SALFORD RED DEVILS coach Paul Rowley was delighted with his side’s efforts in grabbing just their second win of the season against Castleford Tigers.
Despite a nervy last couple of minutes, the hosts held on for a much-needed win in what has been a hugely turbulent season.
“It makes a nice change but today we’re smiling and milking it a little bit,” Rowley joked after the game.
“I’m not sure what adjective best describes the feeling, but I think we deserved our day today. The lads have worked tremendously hard and the fans have sung their hearts out every week, so everyone deserved that moment and it was hard earned.”
Rowley paid tribute to his team’s resilience after seeing them lose three more players – Jayden Nikorima, Loghan Lewis and Esan Marsters – to injury.
“We did the second half with one sub in this heat, which was really tough. We just want consistency in our team. Everyone we get in is first class, but losing those players is a blow for sure.
“We’ll see who we have fit this week and we’ll throw them onto the pitch and have our best dig at a team who have been fantastic all year in Leeds. They’re the real deal and it makes today’s win all the more important for us.”
