Rising York Knights star signs new contract

YORK KNIGHTS head coach Mark Applegarth has challenged Oli Field to continue his progress after agreeing a new two-year deal with the Super League newcomers.

The centre, who came through Leeds Rhinos’ academy without making a first-team appearance, has been a pivotal figure at York for the past three years.

He has scored 28 tries in 84 games with the club thus far, including 32 appearances last season as they won the 1895 Cup final and Championship Shield.

Applegarth believes the 23-year-old has been “by far the most improved player” in his squad this year.

He said: “It’s not just the obvious things fans will have seen, it’s all the little efforts – the tough carries, chasing back and helping his wingers out.

“He’s a really likeable lad and a great team-mate. I still think in two or three years’ time we’ll see the best version of Oli Field.”

Field added: “Signing another two years is one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made.

“I can’t wait for the next chapter with this group and I’m excited to be a part of what’s going to be a big year.”
