WIGAN WARRIORS signing Dayon Sambou is ready to learn from his new teammates and coach Matt Peet as preparations for the new campaign carry on.
The 20-year-old has moved from St Helens alongside fellow centre Jonny Vaughan, with the pair both signing four-year Warriors contracts.
Sambou played six times for Saints, five in Super League and once in the Challenge Cup, all of those games coming last season, when he also made five Championship appearances for Halifax on dual-registration.
In 2024, he featured twice in League One on loan at North Wales Crusaders, where Wigan will play a pre-season game next month.
Now Sambou, who came through the Saints Academy and earned both Lancashire and England call-ups at that level, wants to continue his Rugby League education.
The Warrington-born former Woolston Rovers and Rylands Sharks junior, whose elder brother Jumah has just joined Hull KR from Oldham, having also started out at Saints, said: “Wigan are a great club.
“There are a lot of experienced players here, and I am looking forward to learning from them and playing as many matches as I can.”
Wigan head to Colwyn Bay to play North Wales on Saturday, January 10 (1pm) for the first of two confirmed pre-season run-outs.
The other is winger Liam Marshall’s testimonial against Hull FC at The Brick Community Stadium on Sunday, February 1 (3pm), a week before Peet’s side enter the Challenge Cup at the third-round stage and a fortnight ahead of their Super League opener at Castleford.
“Visiting Wales will provide us with a great opportunity to progress our preparation,” said Peet.
