NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS forward Karl Lawton has been released ahead of a move to Super League.
Last week, All Out Rugby League revealed that Lawton was being hunted by treble winners Hull KR following the exit of Kelepi Tanginoa to Warrington Wolves.
Now, with 115 NRL games under his belt for the likes of the Cowboys and Manly Sea Eagles, Lawton has been granted an immediate release from the final year of his contract to take up an opportunity in the Super League.
Cowboys General Manager of Football, Michael Luck, gave his best wishes to Lawton, saying: “We wish Karl and his family well in their next adventures.”
If the 30-year-old does sign for Rovers, he will join Tom Amone (Castleford), Jumah Sambou (Oldham), Declan Murphy (Salford), Cobie Wainhouse, Jack Charles (both Hull FC), Jordan Dezaria (Catalans) and Tom Whitehead (Warrington) as new recruits for Willie Peters.
