Hull FC’s top try-scorer Lewis Martin sets new goals for season

HULL FC winger Lewis Martin is looking to improve his all-round game to match the finishing talents demonstrated last season.

The 21-year-old appeared in all 30 of Hull’s games in his breakthrough campaign, registering 25 Super League tries and seven in the Challenge Cup to finish top of the scoring charts in both competitions.

It ultimately didn’t lead to team success, as John Cartwright’s side finished a place shy of the play-offs and lost in the Cup quarter-finals.

But Martin is confident that Hull will be an improved force, with a top-six finish the minimum target in 2026.

“If you’re not in the comp to win it, there’s no point,” he told League Express.

“Missing out on the play-offs last year hurt, as we gave it a really good crack.

“We can definitely get in them this year – we’ve got too good a team, and too good a squad, not to.

“And hopefully we can have a good Cup run as well.

“I’ve still got parts of my game I need to improve, and I’ve been working on that in pre-season.

“A few things defensively, and coming out of yardage, are the big areas of my game I can improve on.

“Every winger in the league should be able to finish tries, but it’s the other part of your game that’s important to the team and the coaches.

“I’ve got to keep grounded. It’s only one year (of individual success) and hopefully I’ll have another year like that this year.

“I wouldn’t say I’m a star; I’m just doing my job for the team.”
