More than £9,000 raised by Silverbacks and Queens

MORE than £9,000 was raised when the Silverbacks played Queens on behalf of Charlotte Child (the niece of former Queens player Craig Wright), a mum of four who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The game was played at the historic Bus Vale ground in north Leeds and many of the big crowd repaired afterwards to Woodhouse Cricket Club and Queens’ former base at Burley Conservative Club.

A highlight of the match was a try scored by Silverbacks kitman Paul ‘Keka’ Ward, in his one and only Rugby League outing, following his introduction off the bench.

There were also memorable appearances by the likes of Martin Richardson, Andy Taylor, Scott Houston, Andrew Ali and Ryan Robinson.

The Silverbacks, who are coached by Jonny Morgan and Dave Evans – both of whom toiled tirelessly to arrange the occasion – are next up on Saturday against Normanton All Stars.

The game, at 4.30, is the last of a triple-header involving Normanton Masters and the Knights versus Fryston in the National Conference Yorkshire B division.
