Paul March ready for next Dewsbury Rams challenge

DEWSBURY RAMS coach Paul March is preparing his players for another tough challenge, this time away to Widnes, as he tries to build on the home win over Workington.

The FLAIR Stadium side have been something of a surprise package so far this season, with the 32-6 defeat of the Cumbrians their seventh victory in 13 Championship matches, leaving them ninth in the table.

The Rams started the second half of their fixture schedule with a strong second-half showing against Workington, who were only four points adrift at the turn.

And March, who saw Huddersfield loanee Monty Lumb cross twice, reflected: “In the first half, we were second-best in some areas, and we needed to sort things out.

“We were sloppy coming out of yardage, we gave too many penalties away, and our contact wasn’t great.

“The players took what we said on board, and we were better. We completed higher and kicked to the corners better.

“As a result of that, we started putting them under more pressure, and when we do that, we know we have the players and attacking structures to score points.

“If we get our defending right from the start of games, we give ourselves a chance.”

March continued: “We’re in a good place all things considered, but we won’t be resting on our laurels.

“We know there are big tests coming up, starting with Widnes, who have beaten us twice (in the league, then the first round of the 1895 Cup).

“They have a lot of quality, and the artificial pitch provides another dimension, but it’s another chance for us to test ourselves and see what level we are at as we continue to develop.

“We have stood up to challenges well, and this will be another.”
