Welsh round-up: South Wales Jets win as Summer Bash gets new home

DEBUTANT Mason Phillips scored a hat-trick as SOUTH WALES JETS beat RHONDDA OUTLAWS 54-6 in the JES GROUP WALES CONFERENCE.

Jamie Marsh, Matthew Morgan, Jack Hodder, George Groves, Darrel Moyle, David Hooper and Aaron Harrison also crossed and Marsh booted seven goals. Mackenzie Williams scored a try and goal for Rhondda.

Meanwhile a new venue has been found for the Wales Rugby League’s Summer Bash.

This year’s event will take place at Sardis Road, the home of Pontypridd RUFC.

Saturday’s action starts at noon with an Under Eight festival involving Aber Valley Wolves, Swansea Rams and Torfaen Tigers.

Two JES Group Rugby League Conference fixtures follow, with 2025 champions Aberavon Fighting Irish meeting local side Rhondda Outlaws at 1.00 and Bridgend Blue Bulls playing South Wales Jets at 4.00.

An Under Nine festival will take place between the open-age games.

Rob Deeney, operations co-ordinator at Wales Rugby League, said: “We were delighted with the success of Summer Smash at Cardiff Arms Park in 2025, and this year we’re excited to take the event to Pontypridd to introduce Rugby League to a new audience in the Valleys.

“Sardis Road is a fantastic venue with a proud rugby heritage, so it’s the perfect place to showcase the sport at every level.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming players, families and supporters for what promises to be another excellent celebration of community Rugby League in Wales, and we hope plenty of local rugby fans will come along to experience the sport for the first time.”

Tickets at £8 (£5 concessions) are available from https://wrl.wales/tickets. Under 16s will be admitted free.
