BRAZIL, who recently met German Exiles with a side consisting mainly of European-based players, are to stage games on their own territory next year.
Hugo Froes of the Brasil Rugby League told League Express: “We had the opportunity to host Manchester Metropolitan University in 2025, and this month we will be hosting the University of Oxford’s men’s and women’s teams.
“It is an incredible experience for us to play against athletes who grew up playing the sport we love while, for the visitors, it’s an opportunity to experience a beautiful country that loves welcoming foreigners, as well as playing a tough match against a truly unique team.”
Great Britain Northern Police and Warwick University will visit in August 2027 and Froes stressed: “The invitation is open for any month of the year – for men’s, women’s, wheelchair and youth teams, whether clubs or national squads.
“It will be great to host more teams during the year. We can play any month and the games are in São Lourenço (our Huddersfield) as it is the region where the sport was born in Brazil.
“Visiting teams can pay £250-£350 per capita (hotel, breakfast and tea), plus the costs of the game, while we can find better or more-affordable options.”
