CAIUS FAATILI feels there is plenty more to come from Wakefield Trinity.
Daryl Powell’s side are pushing for the club’s highest-ever finish in the Super League era, which is currently fifth in 2009, 2017 and 2018.
Star winger Tom Johnstone recently said that Trinity, bolstered by the ambition and backing of owner Matt Ellis, want to make a Grand Final.
Wakefield last managed that in 1968, when a team inspired by centre Neil Fox, appointed a CBE in last month’s King’s Birthday Honours List, beat Hull KR 17-10 in the Championship Final at Headingley.
Rovers, of course, have shown how clubs can rise after rough times to successfully challenge for honours.
And back in 2017, Powell led Castleford to the Grand Final after they had claimed the League Leaders’ Shield.
Kiwi Faatili has flourished under Powell’s coaching, and having helped Trinity finish sixth to make the play-offs last year, the popular prop says constant improvement is the objective.
“There’s been an awesome buzz around Wakey since I got here,” said the 24-year-old who previously played for Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup and is contracted to 2028.
“We’ve got to take our hats off to our owners. Matty has done so much for the club, putting money into the facilities and the squad.
“I think they put in a five-year plan that we are ahead of at the moment, but we are never really happy with anything.
“That’s what the best teams do. You always want to grow more and that’s what we are trying to do.
“We are trying to build something good. We have put the stepping stones in and if we can be there or thereabouts at the end of the year we will be excited for it.
“We are still a team that is growing. If we can find some consistent form coming into these later rounds, we will be tough to handle come the finals (play-offs).
“We’re confident that we can beat any team on our day. We haven’t really had our best game yet where everyone is on. When we do that, we’re unbeatable.”
