Leeds Rhinos recall Jeremiah Mata’utia from Hull FC

LEEDS RHINOS have recalled Jeremiah Mata’utia from his loan spell at Hull FC as they look to bring players back in house.

New Zealander forward Mata’utia has made nine appearances for Hull since joining in April.

He has been restricted to just two matches for Super League leaders Leeds having signed ahead of this season, the most recent of them in early March.

But with the final stages of the season rapidly approaching, Rhinos coach Brad Arthur is keen to have some consistency within the squad and within the club.

“We won’t be loaning any more players out,” said Arthur.

“It’s getting to the stage now where we’re getting a lot of requests for players to be loaned out, but my mentality at the moment is that we have done our bit.

“Our guys have got enough game time and we just need to lock down and make sure we keep them all in house and go from there.”

Hull FC are awaiting a call on Ethan O’Neill, who scored two tries in five loan appearances before suffering a hamstring injury.

Arthur recently said O’Neill could be an exception to his loan policy.

“Ethan’s situation is a bit different, because he’s been there for a while, done some training with them and he’s quite comfortable there,” said Arthur.

“If Hull have got a desire to have him back, we’re still happy to let him get some time in Super League.”
