St Helens sign Salford youngster

ST HELENS have given themselves some more options in the outside backs by signing Anna Dennis from Salford.

Although primarily a fullback, the 20-year-old can play anywhere across the backline, and will add some extra firepower to the squad.

After starting her rugby league journey with Wigan St Judes, Dennis then spent time in the Wigan Warriors Academy before spells with Warrington and Salford, where she has been a standout performer.

Dennis has been named in the squad to face Leigh on Saturday.

“I’m really excited and it feels like a fresh start,” she said.

“I’ve been training with the girls already, and it’s a really good, professional group.

“There are so many players who have performed at the highest level, so I’m definitely trying to be a sponge and learn as much as I can. It’s a high-performance environment, and there’s so much knowledge around the group.”

Coach Derek Hardman added that Dennis’ versatility will give the squad an extra boost going into the second half of the campaign, with the top four splitting off after this weekend’s games.

“We definitely think she’ll add something to our squad,” said Hardman.

“It’s important to have as much competition as we can. The fact that she can play numerous positions is a real benefit for our squad. That competitiveness is something we’re looking for as we go into the split.”
