‘A lot of reasons’ for Hull KR defeat says Willie Peters

WILLIE PETERS said there were “no excuses” for Hull KR’s second defeat in a row.

The Robins were comfortable second-best in their 34-12 loss at Warrington Wolves.

Coach Peters said: “There were a lot of reasons why we’re off. There are no excuses, but we need to simplify things.

“We started poor with unforced errors which fatigued us. We’re not defending errors and couldn’t have had a worse start.

“It is difficult to pinpoint one thing but we must start better.

“Credit to Warrington. Despite a young spine they put in the effort, and the last two weeks haven’t been good enough for us.

“We had a look at their tryline but only for two plays as unforced errors and skill execution mean we’re going into our shells. We need to simplify the plays.

“We need to look within ourselves and collectively stick together and we need to make our own luck.

“There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves. The players will take a few days away before the derby game as what we have gone through this year has had an impact and we have produced two performances that aren’t like us.

“The way we played today, that team doesn’t make a play-off semi-final.”

Arthur Mourgue and Dean Hadley returned from injury while Jai Whitbread and Joe Burgess were both dropped.

“Dean came back but had a bit of a stomach issue so came off,” said Peters, “Mourgue managed 80 minutes which was good to see.

“Jai Whitbread missed out due to selection but he knows what he has to do to get back in the side. We had a chat yesterday and he knows what he needs to do to make Thursday’s squad.”

On Burgess, Peters said: “He will be back next week – it was down to selection.”
