WILLIE PETERS admitted he was immensely proud of his Hull KR side despite suffering a 46-0 defeat at the hands of Wigan Warriors.
Peters made a host of changes to his team, including handing out debuts to Frankie Dearlove, Declan Murphy and Alfie Woods.
The Robins boss said only three other players from his squad could have played against the Warriors – Tom Davies, Peta Hiku and Jez Litten. He insisted the rest are either struggling with injuries or suspended.
”I’m really proud of the performance (because) we had a young side tonight,” said Peters. “The players didn’t stop fighting until the end.
“We played against a very good team who are extremely disciplined and give you nothing.
“We said we need to fight for everything, and we gave them a few things, but I felt they did the badge proud.
“It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t perfect. Far from it. The conditions weren’t great, but I am proud they didn’t give up.”
Peters was gutted Dearlove was denied a debut try late on as Bevan French prevented him from grounding the ball.
“Well, that’s Wigan and Bevan French,” he sighed.
“They fight for everything. Frankie has probably learned that pretty quickly. He was an inch away, but that speaks volumes of Wigan and what they’re about.
“They chased the zero, and they were professional tonight.”
