Daryl Powell hails ‘phenomenal’ twelve-man Wakefield Trinity demolition

DARYL POWELL was impressed with how Wakefield Trinity dismantled Castleford Tigers for a third time in 2026.

Their latest 52-14 demolition job was done with just twelve men following Matty Storton’s red card for a shoulder to the head in the 23rd minute.

Powell said: “It was a phenomenal performance. We started fantastic and then got pegged back a little.

“To get Matty Storton sent off – which I thought was harsh to be honest – but then to respond like we did was outstanding.

“The end of the first half and the start of the second half was unbelievable. We looked like we had an extra man.

“We built a big score and executed well, challenged kicks in a fantastic way and found a way to win the game.

“We went down to eleven at the end which made life hard work but what a performance from a twelve-man team.”

Powell confirmed that Mike McMeeken went off late with swelling in his back.
