ALFIE EDGELL has been ruled out for the rest of the season, Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur has confirmed.
Edgell has played just three times for the Rhinos this campaign after recently returning from a thigh injury suffered on Boxing Day.
However, the 22-year-old winger tore his quad in the act of scoring a disallowed try in Leeds’ 24-22 win over Wakefield Trinity last Friday.
Remarkably, Edgell played on for the remaining half an hour with the injury.
“Bad luck has struck Alfie again,” Arthur said.
“In his effort to score that try for us in the second half, he tore his quad and bravely enough played on for us.
“He couldn’t stride out but he played the remaining 30 minutes. Unfortunately for him, his season is done.
“He will go again, he is a tough kid. You can’t sugarcoat it – it is what it is.
“You keep reaffirming to him that his luck will change in terms of staying strong. He is only young.
“The club has invested time into him and he’s just got to be patient and rehab it to get a chance next year.”
Ryan Hall is set to return in Edgell’s place after four weeks out with a hamstring injury.
Leeds’ other first-choice winger, Maika Sivo, is on the road to recovery following surgery on a broken arm.
