ONLY points difference continues to separate LOCK LANE and Heworth in the battle to avoid finishing second-bottom (and therefore being relegated) in the inaugural season of the PREMIER DIVISION.
Marooned Rochdale Mayfield remain three points shy of the Castleford and York outfits, who hosted Saturday’s only two fixtures in the top flight, both matches having been postponed on July 25 because of sun-baked pitches.
The Lane were beaten 48-32 by SIDDAL, who won the National Conference League League Leaders’ Shield in 2024 and 2025 but missed out in each Grand Final, to Hunslet ARLFC and West Hull respectively.
Siddal have won their last four fixtures and are only a point off third-placed Waterhead as the jostling for top-six play-off berths intensifies.
The visitors were 24-0 ahead on 18 minutes, thanks to tries by Harvey Williams, Ed Barber, Noah Lawton and Jamie Greenwood, with Williams landing the first four of his eight goals from as many attempts.
Lock Lane actually ‘won’ the rest of the game 32-24 but the hosts had left themselves with too much to do in a fifth successive defeat.
Touchdowns by Kieren Purdy, Chris Siddons and former Hunslet player Jack Render, two of which Calum Butler improved, pegged Siddal back to 24-16 at the break before Williams crossed to help establish a 14-point cushion.
Butler converted his own score by way of response but Siddal responded with tries in a twelve-minute spell straddling the hour-mark for Josh Milnes, Harry Milnes and Deacon Tallis.
Lock Lane closed strongly with touchdowns in the last three minutes for Morgan Jones and Tom Gibson, with Butler adding his fourth goal.
But Siddal’s bid for a double, after their 28-10 victory in Halifax, was not to be thwarted.
HEWORTH shot into a ten-point lead against THATTO HEATH CRUSADERS, who had prevailed 48-38 in St Helens, thanks to Dan Clarke’s conversion of the second of tries by Sam Parkinson and Jack Sadler.
The Villagers, though, found themselves 18-10 adrift on the half-hour after Ryan Forshaw, Kobi McKinnon and Andy Lea had responded for Thatto, Ryan Houghton adding each goal.
Liam Richmond replied for the Villagers, Sadler goaling, to leave the Crusaders just 18-16 ahead at half-time.
The second period opened with McKinnon and Zach Towse trading tries in the first eleven minutes but the Heath (who are now six points clear of seventh-placed Wigan St Judes in the chase for a play-off berth) eased clear with McKinnon’s hat-trick score on 55 minutes, followed by touchdowns on 63 and 74 minutes respectively to Adam Saunders and Kye Swiyani, both of which Houghton improved in a five-goal contribution.
DEWSBURY CELTIC won their derby at SHAW CROSS SHARKS 26-10 to stay second in DIVISION ONE.
The match, postponed seven days earlier because the Sharks’ pitch was rock-hard, opened with a try by Celtic’s Oliver Thornton.
Shaw Cross, who remain sixth on points difference from Oulton, levelled by the break, through Nathan Wright, and went 10-4 up when Evan Stephenson converted Wright’s second effort shortly after the restart.
But Celtic, who have now won four games on the hoof, completed a double after the 28-16 success at Crows’ Nest Park with unanswered touchdowns at the business end of the contest for Casey Canterbury, Paul Foulstone, Joe Gibson and Foulstone again, three of which Jordan Hirst converted.
DEWSBURY MOOR MAROONS remain third, a point behind Celtic in the quest to secure automatic promotion, courtesy of a 52-4 home win over WIGAN ST PATRICKS.
Pats, who were unable to raise a side on the original date of the fixture, on the last Saturday of April – and were docked four points as a result – travelled with 16 players on this occasion and remain too close to the relegation zone for comfort, particularly as the last four games have been lost.
The Moor, meanwhile, have won their last seven fixtures and were always in control.
Keiren Hepworth crossed twice in the first nine minutes, Louie Walker landing the first of eight goals from nine attempts, and Jake Butterfield and Taylor Russell had dotted down by the time the first-half had reached its midway point.
Connor Gavaghan nipped over on the half-hour to help establish a 28-0 interval lead and George Woodock swept in eight minutes after the restart.
The Moor then had Bradley Adams sinbinned for contact with the face on 52 minutes, and Pats immediately opened their account with an Adam O’Neill touchdown.
But the home side dominated the closing stages with a Louie Walker try on 58 minutes and, on 70 and 73 minutes respectively, touchdowns to Hepworth (for his hat-trick) and Woodcock to breach the half-century.
