MP calls for reinstatement of Keighley Cougars’ stadium funding

KEIGHLEY COUGARS should still receive more than £2 million to rebuild the main stand and create new facilities at their ground, according to their local MP.

Robbie Moore has called on Bradford Council to rethink their decision to pull the money which had been allocated from Keighley Towns Fund cash.

Despite £2.25 million being set aside more than four years ago, the funding was never handed out.

And last month, the now Reform-run council announced the club would not get it, saying the Cougars “have not been able to provide sufficient information to demonstrate the viability of their proposed project”.

Moore has written to Bradford Council chief executive Lorraine O’Donnell, deputy leader Andrew Judson and Keighley Towns Fund Board chair Tim Rogers urging them to honour the funding.

He criticised the council’s handling of the issue, claiming a meeting was hastily arranged to discuss diverting the funding to alternative projects.

“Bradford Council must reverse their decision,” he said.
