YORK VALKYRIE forward Megan Pakulis believes the Super Four competition is exactly the kind of challenge that Women’s Super League players should embrace.
The Canadian international has started in the front row in each of York’s Super Four matches so far, scoring twice in a 38-16 defeat to Leeds Rhinos then scoring the last of their three tries as they got off the mark on Sunday with an 18-14 home win against the same opposition.
That lifted Leon Pryce’s new-look side into third place, ahead of St Helens on points difference.
The second and third-placed sides will battle it out for a chance to play the Super Four winners in the Grand Final and Pakulis has welcomed the new play-off format.
“I love the idea of us playing in the Super Four and just having that competition and high-stakes games every weekend,” she enthused.
“It’s a bit of a daunting idea having all these games happening over the six weeks, and it’s going to be tough, but these six weeks are why we play Rugby League.
“It’s why we’re involved and why we’re athletes, because in these competitions, we want to be tested every single weekend.
“It’s been very exciting.
“Obviously our first rounds didn’t go how we wanted, but it’s nice to know that we’re right back in it the next week and we can just accept that game for what it is.
“We’re working and improving so that the next week, we can go out, put it behind us, and really push our chances to get into the top three.”
