KURT HAGGERTY was full of praise for prop Ebon Scurr after Bradford Bulls’ 32-22 win over Castleford Tigers.
Bradford ended their seven-match losing sequence and Scurr was at the heart of it, earning the official player-of-the-match award.
A mainstay of the Bulls squad since 2019 who stepped up to full-time rugby this season, it was only the 26-year-old’s second Super League start.
“Ebon started in Toulouse (last week) and played really well so I started with him tonight,” said coach Haggerty.
“He’s gone through a really difficult process to get to this level to play Super League.
“I’ve pushed him really hard and he has responded well, and tonight he has shown the hard work that he has put in.”
The same could be said for Bradford as a whole, having given themselves a chance of avoiding the wooden spoon.
They travel to York – who also have 14 points, alongside Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants, all of whom are still to play this weekend – in the final round next Thursday.
Haggerty added: “I’m really pleased with how we defended and we scored some pretty special tries.
“Our week was really positive and the belief in this team hasn’t really wavered.
“A big thing that we spoke about in the week was the occasion for the game against Catalans (the first home game back in Super League) and we tried to recreate that atmosphere.
“We’ll prep to beat York whatever happens this weekend – their result (at Catalans on Saturday) is out of our hands.”
