WAKEFIELD TRINITY have confirmed the signing of Leeds Rhinos centre Ned McCormack on a three-year contract.
The 21-year-old, a former junior England rugby union international, has only made six first-team appearances for Leeds following an injury-disrupted start to his professional career.
But Wakefield coach Daryl Powell believes McCormack has “a big future” as he prepares to join fellow centre Hull FC’s Davy Litten, 23, in a refreshed backline next year, with Cameron Scott moving on to Bradford Bulls.
“He’s a talented young outside back with great footwork and speed,” said Powell.
“He will be an awesome signing to continue our focus on further development of young players for the future.”
McCormack and Litten will join Corey Hall, Oliver Pratt and Jayden Myers in the back division, alongside England winger Tom Johnstone and cross-code New Zealand star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who is expected to line up at fullback.
Ste Mills, Wakefield’s director of rugby, added: “Ned is a great coup for Wakefield Trinity and someone we believe will add a real edge to our backline, while also providing valuable cover across a number of positions.
“He is a very mature young man, both on and off the field, and we believe he has all the attributes to flourish within our environment.
“We’re confident that, given the right opportunities to play first-grade rugby league, he can really develop and fulfil his potential.
“We’re delighted to bring Ned to the club and believe he has the ability to become a top-end player during his time at Wakefield Trinity.”
