HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS have been given the green light to move to Dewsbury.

The RFL have approved the the club’s plan to from next season play at an upgraded FLAIR Stadium which they will redevelop into an 8,000-capacity facility.

With Huddersfield tomorrow facing Castleford Tigers in their last match at the the 24,000-plus Accu Stadium, where they have been based since the venue now solely owned by Huddersfield Town Football Club opened in 1994, Giants owner Ken Davy remains committed to constructing a new ground of around 8,000 capacity in the Huddersfield area.

But until that becomes a reality, the Giants will play alongside Championship side Dewsbury Rams, ten miles from the Accu, taking control of an extensive site and as part of the £10million-plus upgrade, building a new stand at the currently unused end of a stadium which was also opened in 1994 and currently holds around 5,000.

While planning permission for the new stand is still needed, work has begun on other parts of a project which includes alterations to the pitch, improved floodlighting, refurbishment of the existing stands and new hospitality suites, dressing rooms and press facilities.

The Giants see the move as a route to long-term sustainability for both themselves and the Rams.

RFL interim chief executive Rhodri Jones said: “Following consultation with both Super League and Championship clubs, the RFL Board have approved Huddersfield Giants’ request to relocate to Dewsbury Rams’ FLAIR Stadium from the start of the 2027 season.

“The Board have considered the request carefully, including its alignment with the relevant provisions of the rulebook and the potential implications for future grading scores.

“We recognise the significance of this proposed investment and the opportunity it presents to support the club’s long-term plans, while ensuring the process remains consistent, transparent and fair to all clubs.”
