LEIGH LEOPARDS are set to be without prop Robbie Mulhern in the play-offs – while Wakefield Trinity also have injury concerns in the pack.

Wakefield earned a home eliminator against Leigh next Friday with a 19-8 win at the Progress With Unity Stadium which clinched fourth place ahead of the Leopards.

Mulhern was forced off during the game and Leigh coach Adrian Lam said: “I’m pretty sure he’s done his calf – that might be his season (done).”

Wakefield, meanwhile, lost winger Jayden Myers to a head injury which definitely rules him out of the eliminator.

Forwards Caleb Hamlin-Uele and Ky Rodwell missed out on the fixture due to knee and shoulder issues respectively, with both set to see specialists.

Coach Daryl Powell described Trinity’s performance as a “mixed bag”, saying: “I thought our first half was outstanding and we completely dominated the game. Defensively we were as good as we’ve been all year.

“Then the game is toing and froing. Mason (Lino) getting binned changes the game a little bit but we were really brave there and the game was won in that ten-minute period when they threw everything at us and we hung on.

“There were so many big efforts so it’s a pleasing win, and it sets up us nicely as we wanted that home play-off.

“Tonight was great, but next week is where it really counts.”

Conversely, Lam was disappointed by his side’s slow start.

“For the first 25 or 30 minutes, all we did was defend,” he said. “I don’t think we’re that type of team to be that ill-disciplined.

“They (Wakefield) do start strong usually but the penalties (we conceded) to get downfield, that’s what I was frustrated about.”

Despite feeling Leigh were “miles away” in their performance, he noted: “We still had a chance to win the game with ten minutes to go.

“We created nine line breaks and we bombed a few tries. If we get that right, we probably win the game.”

And looking ahead, Lam insisted: “We’ve been able to rally really well – hopefully we can get it back together.”
