WARRINGTON WOLVES boss Sam Burgess paid tribute to his younger players after they outlasted Toulouse to win 26-14, their twelfth home victory of the season.

Despite making eleven changes to his side and handing both Pat Irwin and Daniel Coop their debuts, the Wolves head coach still expected his young line-up to get the job done, and they duly did.

“I’m very proud of the players,” he said. “We expected to win tonight – the players drove that all week.

“Although we rested a lot of players, I think it is important that we understand it is not a reason to lose.

“In the first half they had 25 sets to our 15, but we had an ability to stay in the game and keep it tight.

“They never got too far away from us, and we had a fair control of the game in the second half.”

Toulouse Olympique boss Sylvain Houles felt an inability to take chances cost them victory, but the Frenchman remains excited for the future.

“We lacked a little bit of composure,” he said. “I thought at the beginning of the second half we had that and we went back in front.

“But a lot of the sets after scoring posts cost us. Straight away after the first try… it was quite unlucky.

“We’re proud of what we have achieved with developing youngsters – you take Thomas Lacans, Roméo Tropis, Ben Laguerre, they played only a little more than 20 Super League games.

“Imagine those when they have another season under their belt, they’ll be huge.”
