DONCASTER milestone man Connor Robinson reflected on a record-breaking goal-kicking display against Barrow and said: “I couldn’t do what I do without my teammates scoring tries.”
On his 250th career appearance, the former Hull KR, York and Halifax player landed all twelve efforts from the tee (and also crossed once) as Barrow were thumped 72-0 in a qualifying play-off tie.
That meant Robinson, 31, set a new known first-class record of 52 consecutive goal kicks – and also surpassed the Doncaster best for points in a season.
Ahead of Sunday’s qualifying final at London Broncos, he has 310, bettering Johnny Woodcock’s 306 in 2002.
Robinson has also beaten Woodcock’s club record for goals in a season of 129 in 2002, and before the clash in the capital, had 141.
In a memorable campaign, he has set new club marks for goals (20) and points (44) in a match in the 120-0 home win over North Wales last month. In that game, he reached 2,000 career points and 1,000 for Doncaster.
Robinson also holds to York record for goals in a match (21) and both goals (186 including four field-goals) and points (420) in a season, all in 2018.
“I’m happy to have created some history, but as the lads keeping reminding me, I’m just doing my job,” he smiled.
“If they weren’t doing their jobs and creating and scoring tries, I wouldn’t have as many opportunities to kick.
“It was a good day all round, because we produced a great team performance which showed how well we can play. We’re in a good place.
“We’ve been getting better while in previous years, we have maybe tailed away towards the end of the season.”
