THE RAF will entertain the British Army in the Military Inter-Services tournament on Saturday (5.30pm) at Stanningley, Leeds.

Victory at the Arthur Miller Stadium would result in the RAF, who beat the Royal Navy at Portsmouth on Friday, topping the final table regardless of the outcome of the last game of the series, when the Army meet the Navy at Heworth on Saturday week, September 26.

Stanningley’s event will open with a fixture between the RAF and Army women’s teams, at noon, while the respective ‘A’ teams will go head-to-head at nearby Stanningley Park at 2.00pm.

The RAF toppled holders the Navy 30-18 at Burnaby Road (also lifting the Dog Watch Trophy, contested by the two), despite the hosts recovering from an early 14-0 deficit to be only 14-12 behind at the break. The RAF went on to lead 30-12 before the Navy registered a late converted try.

The coveted women’s Julia Lee Trophy was also secured by the RAF, who prevailed 34-10 in the Women’s match, while the Navy enjoyed success in the men’s Academy fixture with a 32-16 triumph.
