TEN players have been revealed as being on the shortlist for the final third of the season for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award.
Wigan Warriors quintet Adam Keighran, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Brad O’Neill and Jai Field have been listed, alongside Leeds Rhinos duo Jake Connor and Brodie Croft.
The other three shortlisted players are Leigh Leopards duo Joe Ofahengaue and Umyla Hanley as well as Wakefield Trinity prop Caleb Hamlin-Uele, with their selection based on Super League performances from rounds 19 to 27.
Panellists Ellery Hanley, Paul Sculthorpe, Sam Tomkins, James Roby and Joe Lydon, all previous Men of Steel, will decide on a top five in the third episode of ‘Man of Steel: The Panel’, which will air tonight (Monday) on SuperLeague+, which is free to view and will be hosted by Brian Carney.
“It’s never easy whittling the ten down to five,” said Roby.
“We don’t all agree – you can tell that with the voting – but the final five is impressive and they’ll now go into our thinking when it comes to making our final decision on the 2026 Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel.”
The Panel will next decide on a final three-man shortlist to encompass the whole season before meeting one last time to deliberate their overall winner, who will be announced at the Rugby League Awards Night in Manchester on Tuesday September 29.
