GOOLE VIKINGS hooker Oliver Morgan is ready to put his injury woe in the past and push on.
The 19-year-old former Warrington player, who is nicknamed ‘Bobcat’, had a disrupted first season at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, with a shoulder injury that needed surgery limiting him to nine appearances.
However, he is fit again and has penned a year’s contract extension, saying: “I’ve loved my first season in the Championship.
“It was a no-brainer when the club spoke to me about staying, with the plans for next season and the style of rugby we want to play.”
Brett Ferres, a player this year, is succeeding Scott Taylor as coach and Morgan added: “When you have someone like Brett, who has achieved what he has in the game, he is definitely someone I want to learn from.”
Ferres said: “Bobcat is a fantastic little player. He’s still young and raw, with plenty to learn, but the brilliant thing about him is that he wants to improve every day. He’s hungry for that.
“That can be infectious in a group like ours, and the style we want to play will really suit players like him.
“He’s had some rough luck with injuries this year, but we’ve seen glimpses of the danger he poses around the ruck with his direct running game.
“If he applies himself, keeps working hard and continues developing his game, I think he has a very bright future.”
Goole previously agreed a year’s contract extension with halfback or hooker Callum Rutland.
“We’ve built some really solid foundations and I think Brett can take us to the next level,” said Rutland.
