Experienced Sam Hallas is heading to Dewsbury Rams

DEWSBURY RAMS have signed Bradford hooker or loose-forward Sam Hallas on a two-year deal as coach Paul March continues to build for next season and beyond.

The 29-year-old brings the experience of close to 200 games over a career which has so far taken in home-city club Leeds – where he came through the development system, captaining England at Academy level, to play four times for the first team – Newcastle and Hunslet as well as four spells at the Bulls.

The first was on a 2017 loan from Leeds which was then made permanent, with Hallas remaining until 2021.

During that time he played in both League One (having been relegated, Bradford were promoted at the first attempt through the 2018 play-offs) and back in the Championship.

After starting 2022 at Newcastle, Hallas returned to the Bulls that year, and after spending 2023 at Hunslet, rejoined Bradford ahead of 2024, with his latest stint culminating in nine Super League outings and one in the Challenge Cup this year.

“Sam will bring a wealth of experience and veteran knowledge to our young squad,” said the Rams.

Dewsbury in July signed young forward Finnley Thompson from the Bulls while also confirming a contract for 2027 and 2028 for backrower Jacob Bateman, who was at that stage on a season-long loan from Bartercard Odsal.

Loose-forward Danny Addy and secondrow Brad Graham is also on terms to 2028, while hooker Monty Lumb, having been on loan from Huddersfield, has agreed a one-year contract.

March will be aiming to build on an encouraging 2026 campaign in which Dewsbury finished eleventh with eight wins from 24, having at one stage looked on course to make the play-offs.

A partnership with Huddersfield will provide a source of loanees.
