Abbas Miski makes Michael Cheika’s Lebanon squad

WINGER Abbas Miski has been selected in Lebanon’s squad for the World Cup.

The two-time Super League winner, who was the competition’s top try-scorer in 2023, hasn’t played a first-grade game this season for Wigan Warriors.

After coming back from hamstring surgery, Miski wasn’t included on Wigan’s salary cap, playing instead for their reserves.

But the 31-year-old will feature at a third straight World Cup as one of only two European-based players in the Lebanon side, along with Toulouse Olympique forward James Roumanos.

Cross-code coach Michael Cheika is back to lead a side which hasn’t played an international with a full-strength side since the World Cup quarter-final exit to Australia in 2022.

In a huge blow, they are without their playmaker at that tournament, Mitchell Moses, who was selected by the Kangaroos.

They must also cope without Adam Doueihi due to injury, with their biggest names outside back Jacob Kiraz, forward Alex Twal and debutant Jason Saab, a winger or centre.

Lebanon squad: Mohamed Alameddine (Parramatta Eels), Yehya Ayache (South Sydney Rabbitohs), Jalal Bazzaz (Shellharbour Stingrays), Alex Conti (Canterbury Bulldogs), Ibrahim El Labban (Wentworthville Magpies), Tony Francis (Gold Coast Titans), Tupou Francis (Brisbane Broncos), Michael Gabrael (Cronulla Sharks), Mikael Ibrahim (Gold Coast Titans), Moustafa Dirani (St Marys Saints), Jacob Kiraz (Canterbury Bulldogs), Abbas Miski (Wigan Warriors), Brad Morkos (St George Illawarra Dragons), Joseph Nohra (Parramatta Eels), Khaled Rajab (Newtown Jets), Jaxson Rahme (Sydney Roosters), Khalil Rahme (Newtown Jets), James Roumanos (Toulouse Olympique), Jason Saab (Manly Sea Eagles), Jordan Samrani (Parramatta Eels), Tony Sukkar (Wests Tigers), Charbel Tasipale (Newtown Jets), Alex Twal (Wests Tigers).
