SWINTON LIONS coach Anthony Murray is looking forward to getting more out of Jack Stevens next year.
The 23-year-old, who can play halfback or fullback, missed much of this year with a knee injury sustained in February, but returned to action in August – and caught the eye.
Stevens was signed ahead of the 2024 campaign from the old Salford, where he came through the Rising Stars programme to play once in Super League.
He has featured 32 times for Swinton, notching twelve tries and 50 goals, and was key to the 20-18 derby win over the new version of Salford in August.
“Jack has a lot of ability. With a good pre-season under his belt and hopefully an injury-free run, I’m sure he can have a really good 2027 season,” said Murray.
“We’re delighted to have him staying with us and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can achieve.”
Meanwhile Swinton have confirmed the departure of a quintet of players – wingers Patrick Ah Van, Ellis Anderson and Ethan Fitzgerald, prop Samy Kibula (who has signed for Rochdale) and second rower Charlie McCurrie.
But former Samoa international Ah Van, 38, who joined Swinton from North Wales in May amid the Colwyn Bay club’s financial issues and is now playing rugby union for New Brighton, could yet come back.
“We have left the door open should Pat decide he wants to return to Rugby League,” explained Murray.
“Whatever he does, we are grateful for everything he has given to Swinton and wish him all the very best.
“As with Pat, we would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to Ellis, Ethan, Samy and Charlie for their support, commitment and efforts throughout the 2026 season. Each have contributed to the group.”
