Leigh Leopards sign Wigan Warriors utility Jack Purtill

LEIGH LEOPARDS have signed Wigan Warriors utility Jack Purtill.

Purtill, 20, arrives at Leigh having developed within the youth systems of both Leeds Rhinos and Wigan.

Able to cover hooker, halfback and loose-forward, Purtill is the son of former Leigh player Kieron Purtill, who went on to coach both their men’s and women’s teams and was also instrumental in the formation of the club’s Scholarship and Academy programmes.

The younger Purtill said: “I grew up in Leigh and supported them so when the opportunity came (to sign), I was buzzing and I couldn’t wait to take it.

“It means the world to me and I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got.”

Director of rugby Andrew Henderson added: “We are happy to bring Jack Purtill to Leigh Leopards.

“He is a young player from the Leigh area who we have been tracking closely, and adds utility value covering the hooker, halfback and loose-forward position. We are excited to add another talented, ambitious individual to our squad.

“At just 20 years of age, Jack has already benefited from being part of a Super League development system.

“He displays a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and the qualities we look for in young players who have the potential to develop into Super League performers.”
