DONCASTER coach Richard Horne says he is happy that Connor Robinson is hanging up his boots “on his terms”, having set records and played in a Grand Final.
The halfback who will be 32 later this month is heading into retirement alongside teammates and fellow backs Luke Briscoe and Reece Lyne.
All three featured in the Dons side defeated 78-6 by London Broncos in a one-sided Championship title decider in Wimbledon.
It was a disappointing end to what was overall an encouraging campaign for the Yorkshire outfit, who in their third season after coming up from the old League One, finished fourth in the merged second tier.
Robinson, signed from Halifax in 2022, set a new known Rugby League first-class record of 58 successive kicks from the tee.
With 345, he also surpassed the Doncaster best for points in a season, previously 306 by Johnny Woodcock in 2002.
By notching 156, Robinson also beat Woodcock’s club record for goals in a season of 129 in 2002.
He also set new club marks for goals (20) and points (44) in a match in the 120-0 home win over North Wales. In that game, he reached 2,000 career points and 1,000 for Doncaster.
“All three retiring lads have been fantastic for me, this club and the game as a whole,” said Horne.
“Connor has had a great few months with the records and the grand final, and I’m pleased he is finishing on his terms.”
On the London clash, the boss added: “We didn’t complete high enough, gave away too many penalties and just fed them too much ball.
“That meant the energy battle was in their favour and as a full-time side who are fit, quick and powerful, they punished us.”
