Statement of intent as Wakefield appoint Jack Brown as Wheelchair coach

WAKEFIELD Trinity have made a statement of intent with the appointment of decorated England international Jack Brown as the club’s new Wheelchair head coach.

The two-time World Cup winner, 36, has earned a reputation as one of the sport’s greatest ever players, with Trinity hopeful he will continue the positive strides being made by the club.

A stalwart of the England national team, Brown won the inaugural International Rugby League Golden Boot in 2019, and is still at the peak of his powers on the pitch.

He was named player of the match in Halifax Panthers’ Grand Final victory over Leeds Rhinos last month, with a sixth Grand Final win adding to the six Challenge Cups he has also lifted with the Panthers.

Brown has also seen success as a coach, having led Queensland to four consecutive Wheelchair State Challenge triumphs between 2021 and 2024.

“I’m really excited to get stuck into my role as Wheelchair head coach,” enthused Brown, who will combine his new role at Wakefield alongside playing for Halifax.

“There’s been so much success here at Wakefield over the past couple of seasons which comes down to the foundations that have been set and getting the right culture in place.

“Wakefield have got that spot on in so many different areas and anyone that has got that culture spot on, that’s a safe bet for me.

They want to be real innovators and trendsetters in how the sport can grow, which is something I really align with as I’ve always been a big advocate of the sport’s potential.

“I’ve always been really passionate about the development of the sport and I’ve seen so many improvements here at Wakefield already in recent years.

“The club wants success, wants to be promoted to Super League and wants to be competitive in Super League and there’s a very specific and detailed plan in how they see that happening too.

“It was a no-brainer to take this opportunity and be part of it.”

Director of rugby Ste Mills is delighted with Brown’s appointment, adding: “It’s unbelievable for the Club to welcome someone of Jack’s calibre as our new head coach, given his amazing track record as both a player and a coach.

“We know just how big of a name Jack is within the game.

“As you saw in the Grand Final last month, he is a phenomenal player and an incredible coach to lead our Wheelchair team.

“To bring Jack to Wakefield Trinity is a massive statement of intent from the club.

“We want every single team here at Wakefield Trinity to be at the top and fighting for trophies.

“We’re really pleased to have Jack on board and we’re all looking forward to the future under his leadership.”
