BARLA Lions tour game cancelled

Tomorrow’s fixture between Fiji Bati Residents and the touring BARLA Lions is off.

The Lions’ PRO Dave Parkinson said: “After discussions with the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), it has been agreed to make a change to the Lions’ tour schedule.

“Originally the side had been set to play four games on tour, including two games against the Fiji Bati Residents team. However it has now been agreed between both parties that the game scheduled for tomorrow (17 November at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka) will no longer take place.

“This is down to issues with the high heat and humidity which could impact on player welfare.

“The BARLA management committee fully supports the stance of the touring party.”

Parkinson continued: “The team will still be in action against the Australian Combined Affiliated States on Tuesday 20 November and against the Bati Residents on Friday 23 November.

“In further dialogue between the BARLA Tour Management and the FNRL, kick-off times have been set at 5.30pm local time (4.30am UK time), rather than the much earlier 1.30pm kick-off in the first game.”

That first match, against Fiji West, was won 22-20.
