Barrow Island lift Barton Townley Cup

BARROW ISLAND 32 MILLOM 16
PADDY MCATEER, Speed Competitions Stadium, Friday

BARROW ISLAND, who lost to Millom in the first Barton Townley final back in 1982, exacted retribution after a long wait.

Millom, who were never ahead, trailed 16-10 at the break yet were still in contention in the closing stages at 26-16 adrift.

But Fin Dutton-Rosconie, the man of the match, sealed victory for the Island with his third try, with Ellis Archer landing his fourth goal.

Dutton-Rosconie had opened for the Island, Rio Walker responding for the Woolybacks, before Ryan Wilson and Dutton-Rosconie crossed prior to the break.

Josh Blinkhorn, however, touched down in Millom’s reply, Walker adding the extras to reduce the deficit at the interval to only six points.

The Island, though, extended their lead by the hour to 16 points, thanks to tries for Nathan Sneesby and Cam Currie.

Resilient Millom, who had beaten the Island in the 2007 final, rallied with Walker’s conversion of Daniel Hartley’s effort. But Dutton-Rosconie had the last word.
