Bateman ruled out of Wigan’s trip to Hull KR

Shaun Wane has confirmed John Bateman will not feature in Friday’s clash with Hull KR.

The England international was left out of Wigan’s squad that defeated Salford last week amid an internal investigation taking place at the club following an alleged incident just over a week ago.

League Express reported this week that Bateman has been suspended for a month, but there has been no official confirmation from the club so far.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” Wane said in today’s press conference.

The Sunday People reported that a ‘gruesome brawl’ took place, which included a bottle being broken and blood appearing on the walls and floors of Wigan’s Xercise4less gym.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have received a boost, with Anthony Gelling available for selection.

The centre has been missing with a hamstring injury, but is back in contention for the trip to face James Webster’s side.

“He was the form centre in the comp before injury so it’s great to have him back.” Wane said.
