Ben Roberts to miss the rest of the season for Castleford

Castleford Tigers have confirmed that star half-back Ben Roberts will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Roberts, who had spent the last three months on the sidelines with a foot problem, suffered another foot injury during the Magic Weekend win against Warrington on Saturday.

And Cas coach Daryl Powell has revealed that he will now need an operation, and will not play again in 2016.

“It’s a rupture of the tendon,” Powell explained to TotalRL.

“It’s one of those things, but at least he knows now. It was just a mystery before, he was taking so long and it was three months before he came back, but now he has a six month recovery period and he just needs to get through it. It’s tough to take, but it is what it is.

“We’ve got some options and there’s plenty to play for. There are players that haven’t been getting in there regularly, Ryan Hampshire for example, he gets to fight really hard for that place now. Grant Millington has been good in there, Paul McShane’s been outstanding when he has played there too, so we have some options in there and it’s for me to pick the right ones at the right time.”
