Betts: We were awful

Widnes Vikings Head Coach Denis Betts cut a frustrated figure after seeing his side downed 28-18 by Huddersfield Giants in a game he labelled as “dire”

“We were awful. We never built any pressure,” said Betts.

“We kept hold of the ball well in the first half but didn’t do anything with it. We’ve given penalties away to relieve pressure late in the tackle count. We couldn’t deal with some kicks: a couple of tries over the top of Ince.

“Both edges were awful and didn’t offer any threat with the ball. We didn’t deserve anything out of it. It would have been nice to win but it would have been harsh on Huddersfield.

“They (Huddersfield) were rubbish as well. That’s how bad I feel. They are rubbish, we are rubbish . That’s how bad that game was.

“People had to pay to watch that and it was absolutely dire. We contributed massively to that tonight. Everything we talked about not doing, we did.”
