Bigger teams have advantage in new era, says Webster

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach James Webster believes that the restructuring of Super League and the Championships could lead to a bigger gulf emerging between the elite teams and the rest.

The Wildcats are still in Super League after avoiding relegation last year, but Webster says that under the new system, the bigger teams could get stronger whilst smaller teams battle to get up into Super League.

He did admit however, that nobody will know for sure how the new system will go until it is rolled out.

“No one will really know what the new structure is like until they’ve experienced it,” said Webster.

“I’m willing to give it a go. I do believe the system will allow the top clubs to get first crack at signing players for next year so my opinion is that the bigger teams will just get bigger and it will be harder for the smaller teams to try and climb up.
