Brad Arthur on Toulouse ‘wake up call’ and high praise for Warrington Wolves star

BRAD ARTHUR believes Toulouse Olympique’s fightback from 30-0 down to 30-24 last weekend was a ‘wake up call’ for Leeds Rhinos.

The Rhinos were cruising with a five-try lead after 38 minutes, and, whilst Toulouse registered a four-pointer on the half-time hooter, they were never expected to get back to within six points.

For Arthur, he is analysed what went wrong during the early parts of the second-half, but he also thinks that the Rhinos did well to weather that storm.

“There were a couple of system errors from the scrum defence as we got beat on the same kind of scrum,” Arthur said.

“It was a wake up call and we had to tidy up. I’m never happy about 24 points conceded.

“I was extremely happy with how professional we were when it did get to 30-24. We showed a heap of composure and an evolution in our game.

“We didn’t get run down and we regrouped to finish off with three tries.”

Ahead of Leeds’ clash against Warrington Wolves this weekend, Arthur had high praise for Wolves star Josh Thewlis, who has excelled at fullback in the absence of Cai Taylor-Wray.

“I really like Thewlis as a player. He played really well against us here in round six and he is very brave.

“He puts his body on the line and did so to stop Maika Sivo a few times earlier in the year.

“He is tough and likes to win.”
