BRAD ARTHUR has admitted he was “surprised” by Jake Connor’s snub for the Super League Man of Steel shortlist.
Connor was omitted from the three-man shortlist published on Wednesday, with his Leeds Rhinos teammate Lachlan Miller included alongside Wigan Warriors pair Adam Keighran and Brad O’Neill.
Despite accruing 43 try assists and playing a major role in Leeds’ rise to second in the Super League table, Connor – last season’s winner – has been overlooked by the five-strong panel of experts.
Though Arthur has admitted the club’s disappointment, the Australian coach knows Connor is firmly focused on Leeds’ semi-final clash against Warrington Wolves on Friday night.
“It’s unfortunate for Jake and we are disappointed,” Arthur said.
“However, we haven’t really worried about that at the moment because we’ve got bigger things in front of us and he’s got bigger things on his mind which is his performance this weekend.
“Him not being on there is a bit surprising, but it is what it is and all he can worry about is how well he can perform on Friday.”
On the flip side, Arthur believes the place on the shortlist is a nice reward for Miller, who is unable to feature in the play-offs due to a hamstring injury.
“We are proud of Lachie. He’s had a really good season and we’re so happy for him,” said Arthur.
“It is a nice way for him to end his season given that he is now injured.”
