Featherstone Rovers have completed a move to sign halfback Kyle Briggs – a deal reported in League Express MONTHS ago.
Briggs has returned for a third stint at Rovers after his departure from Sheffield, the club he moved to from Fev in 2014.
He shot to prominence at Featherstone in 2009 before completing a big move to Bradford in 2011. He went on to make a handful of appearances at the Bulls before returning to Fev on loan in 2012, a deal that was then made permanent.
But he left Featherstone for a second time to join the Eagles in 2014, where he enjoyed a stunning start to life at the Eagles and went on to guide them to the Super 8s last year.
He has signed a two-year deal with the club.
“Kyle will be no stranger to Rovers supporters and I’m delighted to have recruited a quality player,” said head coach Jon Sharp.
“We’ve been looking to strengthen our half backs and also improve our kicking game, we have also been looking at leadership qualities of the group and Kyle ticks all of these boxes.
“I think the combination with Thackeray is an exciting prospect as both are very smart footballers. I’m well aware that Kyle was a fans favourite and how important he was during his previous spells at the club which will make him settle in with the group more quickly. I’m sure the Rovers fans will be looking forward to seeing him in a Featherstone shirt again next season.”
Briggs added: “Not many players sign for the same club on three separate occasions during their career but I had no hesitation about coming back to Featherstone. I’ve always enjoyed my time at the Big Fella’s Stadium and looking forward to getting started again under Jon.
“I’ve known (Anthony) Thackeray for a few years and know by playing against him that he’s a very talented player so hopefully we can get some chemistry going and create a good partnership which will move the team around the field into the right positions. The facilities at Featherstone are great and I’m looking forward to experiencing the good atmosphere at the Big Fella’s Stadium as the supporters always back the team.
“There’s been a few changes since I was last here a couple of years ago but Jon is putting together a strong squad and I expect to settle in really quickly and help Featherstone Rovers achieve their goals in 2016 and beyond.”
