Briscoe aiming to make mark against Kiwis

Leeds Rhinos and England winger Tom Briscoe says he’s looking forward to getting the chance to take on New Zealand tonight, despite missing out on England honours in 2015.

The winger, who crossed five times in the Challenge Cup victory against Hull at Wembley in August, was left out of Steve McNamara’s squad after missing a fair chunk of the season due to a shoulder injury.

And he says he’s looking forward to testing himself against a top international team, despite not getting the chance to do so with the England side.

“Being out for five months didn’t help but I think I’ve been playing pretty well when I came back,” Briscoe told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Obviously Steve thought the other guys deserved it more.

“I spoke to him about it. He rang me up on the Sunday after the Grand Final.

“It’s just one of those things. He mentioned the injury and a few other things so that’s that.

“I get chance to play New Zealand with Leeds on Friday night, though. They are a massive set and obviously an international side.”
